Pump.fun fees explained: bonding curve tax, PumpSwap tiers and fees paid

Every buy and sell of a Pump.fun token pays a fee that trading terminals often show as "Tax". Here is where the number comes from, how it changes as a token grows, and how it differs from the "fees paid" metric.

The fee on the bonding curve

While a token is still on the Pump.fun bonding curve, every trade pays a flat 1.25% fee, split between the token creator (0.30%) and the Pump.fun protocol (0.95%). There is no liquidity-provider fee because there is no liquidity pool yet.

The fee after migration: PumpSwap tiers

When the bonding curve completes, the token migrates to PumpSwap. From that point the fee is dynamic: it depends on the token's market cap measured in SOL. Small tokens pay more, large tokens less. Pump.fun's official schedule for SOL-paired canonical pools is:

Why it matters for trading

A round trip (buy and sell) on a small token costs about 2.5% in swap fees alone, before slippage, priority fees and your trading bot's fee. On a scalp aiming for +10%, a quarter of the profit goes to fees. Keep the tax in mind when you set take-profit levels on small caps.

Fees paid: a different metric

"Fees paid" (shown as Global Fees Paid on some terminals) is not a fee rate. It is the total SOL that traders have spent on a token in trading-bot and platform fees, priority tips (Jito and similar) and network fees.

It is useful as a reality check on volume. Real traders using terminals and bots pay fees on every trade; a wash-trading bot cycling the same SOL usually pays very little. A token showing large volume but very low fees paid deserves suspicion — see volume to market cap ratio and organic volume.

Different providers include different components, so the total can vary between tools. Compare tokens on the same tool.

Key takeaways

  • Bonding curve: flat 1.25% per trade.
  • PumpSwap: from 1.25% down to 0.30% as the market cap in SOL grows.
  • Fees paid measures real trading activity, not the fee rate.
